Due to its natural sheltered harbour afforded by the Dubai Creek, Dubai city is believed to have been a busy port of call on the ancient trade route between Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley. Today, the Gulf's travel hub is Dubai International Airport, served by more than 50 major airlines and whose national carrier is Emirates, flying to over 45 destinations.

The historic focal point of life in Dubai is the Creek, with its array of dhows, and an attractive way to view it is by abra (water taxi), which regularly cross the Creek. Some of Dubai's main attractions are the souks, from Deira's celebrated gold souk to the spice and perfume souks. On the Bur Dubai side of Dubai, in the Al Fahidi Fort, is Dubai Museum, which shouldn't be missed.

Dubai is the location to enjoy desert safaris and dune driving in four-wheel drive vehicles as well as camel racing, horse racing and falconry. Moonlit Arabian desert barbecues, complete with Bedouin tents and traditional entertainment, are all part of the many attractions in this fascinating destination.
